Tuscany Pro Makeup Chair

Tuscany Pro Makeup Chair - roziecheeks.com
If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen this photo of my Tuscany Pro makeup chair. I get a lot of compliments & questions about it, so I figured I'll break down all the details in this long overdue post.

I've had this makeup chair for over a year now & it has definitely been a game changer for my business. As a freelance makeup artist I work 'on location' & I'm always traveling to different gigs. I do a lot of weddings & most of my bridal work takes place in a hotel room, bridal suite, etc. If I'm lucky, the room I'm working in is furnished with a tall chair/stool. Sometimes it's not & I end up working with a standard chair. I try to avoid this type of scenario as much as possible, especially if I'm working on multiple people and for more than a few hours. Standing hunched over for a long period of time can do a number on your back. Chair height definitely makes a difference when an artist is perfecting her craft. I usually like working with a director's chair because the height is perfect for makeup application, however, its bulkiness is not ideal for traveling.

I discovered this chair on a makeup artists' blog about 4 years ago. I can't remember her name but she had a little demo on her blog & this chair was exactly what I've been looking for. I did more research & found the company that makes them - Cal Camp. It was interesting to learn that Cal Camp actually carries mostly camping gear plus other outdoor furniture. I was curious to know if they had a storefront since they were based in California, so I emailed Cal Camp directly. Unfortunately they don't, but you can purchase directly on their websites: calcamp.com or tuscanypro.com, Amazon, & various beauty supply stores (Naimies, CRC Makeup, Paint And Powder Cosmetics, etc.) I did a lot of research on prices to see which site I would get the best deal. I decided to go with Naimie's since I'm a Pro member & it seemed to be the cheapest plus I needed to stock up on other beauty supplies. Note* this item is already discounted & there is no additional discount for pro members. If you purchase through Naimie's they'll also send you a complimentary bottle of brush cleanser. Shipping was pretty fast (probably because I live in California) which was awesome. The only con about ordering through Naimie's is you have to pay for shipping. If you order through Tuscany Pro, ground shipping is FREE.

I ordered the Tuscany Deluxe Pro Makeup Chair Short 25". Here is a link to the Naimie's website, more photos also available there.

I'm 5'4" & I usually wear a bit of a heel when I work, so I thought this would work best for me. The website said this would be suitable for artists under 5'7", however, the 25" doesn't quite sit my clients at my eye level. I must wear flats or have them sit up completely straight to work comfortably without hunching over too much. If you're around 5'4"/5'5", I would highly recommend getting the medium or tall instead - especially if you wear a bit of a heel while working. This chair would be perfect for any hairstylist as well.
The Tuscany Pro makeup chair is absolutely perfect for traveling. It's lightweight & comes with a strap so you can easily carry it around. I usually have my chair on one shoulder while I stroll along my Zuca.

Assembly is not required when you get the chair but it does come with a sheet of instructions. See photo below.

Unfolding the chair is super easy, however, folding it can be a little bit of a struggle. I find putting your forearm directly under the seat & using a lot of strength when pulling upward will fold the chair easily. Don't forget to make sure the foot rest is unlocked. It will take some practice, but once you get it down, it's pretty easy.
The side tables are a great addition to the chair especially if you're working in a tight space & don't have a table to put your products/supplies on. The 25" chair comes with a cup holder. I haven't utilized it much, but I've seen hairdressers use it for their hot tools. The tables also come with Velcro straps on the side, which in my opinion, is a good & bad thing. Pro - to attach the brush belt that is included, Con - if you're not using it for the brush belt, it can easily snag & damage certain fabrics (ex: lace, chiffon, etc - common fabrics for formal events) I usually just put a towel over the side table so it can hide the velcro strap. I also really like that the chair has a bottom net. I'll use the bottom net for some of my Zuca pouches when I'm not using them.

Whether you're a makeup artist that travels or not, this is a great addition to you artist kit. I work so comfortably on my clients when I bring my own makeup chair. My clients are so excited to sit in the chair as well. It's comfortable, durable and most of all professional.

I hope this post answered many questions about this makeup chair. If I missed any details or if you have any other questions, please feel free to list them in the comments below! Xo.

Is there a trick to locking the side tables? Mine always fall if I put anything on them.
